A Dayton, OH family wanted to entertain eight guests during neighborhood parties. The greatest challenge was the severe grade change which is why they incorporated a deck with a raised patio. The use of limestone boulders and natural stone steps not only helped us retain the soil but also gave it a natural appearance. With the addition of lighting in the posts of the deck and underneath the caps of the seatwalls, this outdoor living space is perfect for entertaining in the evenings as well. One of the customer’s concerns was warranties. TimberTech offers a 25-year fade-and-stain warranty, and Techo-Bloc offers a lifetime transferrable warranty on color-fading and de-icing salt.
This patio is a total of 450 square feet and the deck is a total of 200 square feet giving them a total of 650 square feet of entertaining space. With the design finalized, the project was estimated a total of three weeks for completion and required a building permit for the deck. Below, we have progress pictures and a picture of the completed job.

Before/After
The Blu 60mm Collection offers a large-piece modular pattern to mimic the look of tile for the outdoors. The large pieces reduce the number of joint-lines in your paver patio offering a more contemporary look than the traditional 4×8 rectangles. Blu 60mm comes in two finishes: textured and smooth. This project used the textured surface in the sandlewood color.
Hera and its complementary circle kit, Rotondo, were used to accent the main patio and segregate an area for a portable fire-pit. With its rough texture and dimpled surface, Hera offers a great contrast to the Blu 60mm Collection. The color in this project is Champlain Grey (70% grey, 30% tan) which is the complementary color to sandlewood (70% tan, 30% grey). The rough texture gives the patio a natural look to match that of the natural stone boulders.
Manchester is Techo-Bloc’s version of a dimensional seat wall offering a wide capability of installation techniques. It’s a solid-core seat wall product that is stacked in a running-bond pattern similar to brick on a house. The color chosen for this project was chestnut brown to try to complement the color of the deck and patio.
The Earthwood Evolutions Terrain is the newest addition to TimberTech’s line of composite decking. This material is classified as a capped composite featuring a wood-fiber core with a PVC enclosure. With its realistic texture and variegated colors, it closely resembles the look of real wood. Terrain is a maintenance-free decking product and a low-cost option to composite decking. This product offers a 25-year fade-and-stain warranty as well as TimberTech’s standard warranty. The color chosen for this project was brown oak which gives the appearance of a dark hardwood.
